Santa Gift Sack


  • 2 yds utility fabric for bag
  • 1/4 yd green fabric for bow & patch
  • 1/4 yd red fabric for bow & patch
  • Various stencils for lettering
  • 1 blank stencil sheet
  • Green, red & black paint
  • Stenciling brush or dabber
  • Craft knife for cutting stencil
  • Disappearing fabric marker
  • Black purl cotton or embroidery floss
  • Cardboard for protection
  • Basic sew supplies


  1. Cut 2 pieces 36"x26" for bag front and back.
  2. Turn under top side of front and back 1/2" and stitch.
  3. With WST, sew front to back along sides and bottom using a 1/2" seam.
  4. If desired, fray edges.
  5. Measure up 5" from the bottom and draw a line all the way across the bag with disappearing marker.
  6. Slide cardboard between front and back to protect back from paint bleeding through.
  7. Stencil “Deliver By December 25” on the line.
  8. Lay out and arrange lettering as desired.
  9. To print the logo pattern, click on the "See Project on" link (below). Enlarge the pattern and cut out from stencil sheet.
  10. Use red and green paint to stencil logo onto bag.
  11. Cut a 5" square from red fabric and a 3" square from the green.
  12. Use black purl cotton or embroidery floss to stitch patches to bag.
  13. For two sided bow, from both the red and green fabric, cut two pieces 3-1/2"x30".
  14. Using a 1/4" seam, sew one 3-1/2"” side together – red to red and green to green.
  15. With RST, pin the red to the green and cut both ends at a 45° angle.
  16. Use a 1/4" seam and sew all around strip, leaving an opening for turning.
  17. Clip corners, turn RS out and press.
  18. Stitch center to back of bag, 6" down from the top.
